Position Descriptions

Executive Committee

 

President 

The President is the main coordinator, supervisor, and spokesperson of the Education Undergraduate Society of McGill University, the student government organization for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education. Their responsibilities include calling and presiding over meetings of the Executive Committee and Council, enforcing the EdUS Constitution, and coordinating relations between the EdUS and the McGill administration by participating in the Faculty Council, the Undergraduate Student Affairs Committee, the Presidents’ Council, and the Committee on the Coordination of Student Services. The President gains skills in leadership, teamwork, public speaking, time management, and communication while learning about university affairs and organizational governance.

VP Internal

The Vice-President Internal is the chief liaison between students in the Faculty of Education and the Education Undergraduate Society of McGill University, the student government organization for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education. Their responsibilities include organizing activities that promote spirit and facilitate networking between students, and organization the Faculty of Education Graduation Ball. The VP Internal gains skills in leadership, teamwork, communication, and event planning while learning about university affairs and organizational governance.

VP Communication

The Vice-President Communication monitors the facilities and communications of the Education Undergraduate Society of McGill University, the student government organization for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education. Their responsibilities include managing the EdUS office and student lounge, enforcing EdUS policies on use of space, maintaining and updating the EdUS website, managing the sale of merchandise, and sending communications to Education students. The VP Communication gains skills in leadership, teamwork, communication, and web design while learning about university affairs and organizational governance.

VP External

The Vice-President External is the chief liaison between outside organizations and the Education Undergraduate Society of McGill University, the student government organization for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education. Their responsibilities include organizing and overseeing the annual Education Career Fair. They are also responsible for undertaking philanthropic duties on behalf of EdUS, acting as Chair of the Charity Committee and organizing fundraising and charitable events.  In addition, they develop and maintain relations between EdUS and any external resources or groups. The VP External gains skills in leadership, teamwork, networking, and event planning while learning about university affairs and organizational governance.

VP Finance

The Vice-President Finance manages and oversees all financial affairs within the Education Undergraduate Society of McGill University, the student government organization for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education. Their responsibilities include preparing the EdUS budget, monitoring the expenses of EdUS events, managing and accounting for the EdUS store and locker funds, negotiating the insurance coverage of the EdUS, and handling exterior requests for EdUS funding. The VP Finance gains skills in leadership, banking, and budgeting while learning about university affairs and organizational governance.

 

VP Academic

The Vice-President Academic is responsible for all educational and academic concerns of the Education Undergraduate Society of McGill University, the student government organization for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education. Their responsibilities include representing the EdUS on the following committees: Academic Policy Committee, Teacher Education Planning Committee and McGill Academic Roundtable. The VP Academic is responsible for organizing PedTalks by reaching out to members of the university and/or local community. They are also responsible for overseeing the EduBuddies Mentoring Program, including organizing networking events with a committee and following-up with pairs.  In addition, the VP Academic also looks over Conference Fee Reimbursement and is the primary person of contact from EdUS for student inquiries related to academic issues. The VP Academics gains skills in leadership, planning, advocacy, public speaking, and networking while learning about university affairs and organizational governance.

VP Student Wellness

The Vice-President Student Wellness is responsible for organizing and implementing various wellness initiatives for the Education Undergraduate Society of McGill University, the student government organization for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education. Their responsibilities include representing the EdUS on the Standing Committee, as well as attending monthly DISE (The Department of Integrated Studies in Education) meetings. The VP Student Wellness is responsible for organizing Wellness Week, which is a week of wellness-promoting activities for students. They are also responsible for putting together periodic food giveaways for students in the education faculty. In addition, the VP Student Wellness represents the best interest of the students within the faculty by organizing social, involving, proactive events such as bake sale, wellness week, food giveaways promoting the well-being if all individuals and students. The VP Student Wellness gains skills in leadership, planning, advocacy, public speaking, and networking while learning about university affairs and organizational governance.

Executive Administrator

The Executive Administrator is an administrative assistant for the Education Undergraduate Society of McGill University, the student government organization for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education. Their responsibilities include recording minutes for the Executive and Council meetings, organizing the EdUS office, and maintaining online documentation. The Executive Administrator gains organization and written communication skills while learning about university affairs and organizational governance.

SSMU Representative

The Education Representative to SSMU Council serves as a liaison between the Education Undergraduate Society of McGill University, the student government organization for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education, and the Student’s Society of McGill University. Their responsibilities include advancing the interests of Education students and the EdUS Council within SSMU. The Education Representative gains skills in public speaking and communication while learning about university affairs and organizational governance.

Education Senator

The Education Representative to the University Senate serves as a liaison between the Education Undergraduate Society of McGill University, the student government organization for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education, and the University Senate, the governing body tasked with general control and supervision of the academic matters of the University. Their responsibilities include advancing the interests of Education students and the EdUS Council within the University Senate. The Education Representative gains skills in public speaking and communication while learning about university affairs and organizational governance.

 

Speaker

The Speaker of Council represents a non-voting and an unbiased position in the Education Undergraduate Society. The role consist of maintaining order during meetings by ensuring that proper decorum is kept throughout each meeting of Council as specified in the newest edition of Roberts’ Rules of Order Newly Revised. The speakers maintains a meeting environment that is free from harmful language, behaviours, and actions including but not limited to: targeted personal attacks, hate speech, and slurs. The above mentioned standards of conduct shall be applied to executives, representatives, members at large, and invited guests.
